Recently I mentioned downsizing into a smaller place. I am going from a home to an apartment. I keep looking for ways to keep my place clutter free while having it still look cute. I want it to have a personality. The hardest thing about moving into a smaller place is dealing with a much smaller bathroom. I have a lot of stuff ok! So this post is dedicated to keeping your small bathroom organized. I touched on it a little in my last post, but now I am digging in hard core!
The first thing I thought of was adding shelves to my bathroom for storage. The only problem with shelves is things can get knocked off pretty easily, especially in a small space. This is why I am going to try spice racks. The difference between spice racks and shelves is that spice racks have bars across them to hold everything in. Now I do not have to worry about breaking any jars!
Every girl uses bobby pins. It is just a given. A huge problem with this is that we always lose them! A trick to keeping them all in place is to add a magnetic strip below your mirror for easy access and storage.
Another part of having a small bathroom means you have very little counter space to story things that usually belong on a counter, like tooth brushes and Q-tips. To remedy this situation try hanging up mason jars to hold your every day needs.
To keep your bathroom towels organized, try hanging up multiple towel rods on the back of your bathroom door. Its easy on the eye and great for organization.

And watch for more of my posts, I can guarantee they are coming!
For that past two years I have lived in a quaint, decently sized home near my school campus. I have had the pleasure of living with three of my very best friends. We truly made our house a home. Now, some of us are graduating and some of us are moving to different places, but none of us are staying in our cute little home. It is bitter sweet. I am going to miss my perfect little green house secluded on the north side of campus. I do not want to see anyone else move in there. But on the bright side, new is not always bad and I will be moving into an apartment with one of my roommates now. That being said we definitely have to downsize. Going from four to two is very different. We do not need as many things and the apartment is going to be a lot smaller than our home.
So I started thinking of ways to decorate our apartment without cluttering it up and making it impossible to live in.
One thing my roommate and I agreed on was that we NEED a wine rack, but there is not a whole lot of counter space in our humble abode. If you are in the same situation try this vertical wine rack. It is $78.99!
Most small apartments, like ours, have a sink without a counter top. This makes it really hard to get ready in the morning. One thing I know I am investing in is this Hot Iron Holster. Get it while it is on sale for $19.99!
We also do not have a dishwasher in our apartment. This means we have to hand wash everything, and when you hand wash things you will have to let them dry. With very little counter space this is going to be hard. So, invest in the 3-In-1 Space Saving Corner Dish Rack
It is spring time. The sun is starting to poke it’s head out of the clouds. The birds are starting to sing, and flowers are in full bloom. We Minnesotans can actually leave the house without our parkas now. Spring is also a time for fashion. I love fashion but obviously Spring Fashion Week is way out of my league, and my price range. The outfits are so ridiculous you are left wondering “Who would wear that?” While the outfits are crazy there are definitely ways to tone it down and make it every day appropriate. All you have to do is pick out the key trends and find similar items in the stores you generally shop at.
This spring, the trends that have been seen on the streets are fringe, overalls, blanket coats, and anything red. Obviously, the runway versions of these cannot be worn to your every day office, unless your office is at Marie Claire or Chanel. But I am going to bet that no one who reads this blog works at those places. I give fashion advice, and they are fashion. I went out and found a few items of clothing that work these trends in a simple, every day way.
You will be on the fringe of fashion with this crochet halter top from UrbanOG. For $39.10 it can be yours!
It is hard to rock overalls and not look like Old McDonald. But this chic pair will have the cows coming home all night! Get them for $23.99 at Forever21
You will want to blanket yourself in this coat from Urban Outfitters. It is perfect for those chilly spring nights! It is a great transition piece into summer. Get it for $79.00
I do not actually mean anything. Do not go around in a red trash bag, even if it is Chanel. I mean the color red is very popular for fall! Wear it on your hips or your lips. Try these quilted jogger pants from Foreign Exchange, $24.00.
For the longest time, people have been dying their hair. Some change their color because they are bored, some want to make a statement, but most want to cover up their grays. So why then, are all these young 20 somethings dying their hair gray? Yes,”granny hair” seems to be the latest trend.
I’ve gotta admit, if I thought I could pull it off I would do it. I have always wanted to dye my hair light purple circa Kelly Osbourne. I do not look good blonde so I feel like most light hair styles are off the table for me. I will stick to my raven black hair for now. But, if you want to try out this new trend, here is how you do it. But, be warned, any dying of your hair could damage it but dying it completely gray could do more damage than normal.
This is why the first step in the grannying process is to let your hair grow out for about 6 months to get rid of the current dye. Then about 1 to 2 weeks before dying get a deep conditioning treatment. This will help minimize the damage you do to your hair when you bleach it. Then, 48 hours prior to dying, do not wash your hair. Let those natural oils soak into your scalp! Bleaching your hair will damage it so be prepared to chop some length off after. This is another reason why you should wait 6 months, you will regain some length.
After all of this preparation, you are ready to start bleaching. Unless you are already light blonde, you need to strip all the color from your hair. Some people even need two bleaching processes. Next you will have to add a purple toner to your hair to counteract the yellow from the bleach. After all this you are finally ready to dye your hair gray. The whole process takes about 7 hours and almost $700.00. Not including maintenance. Basically if you want to go granny, you will have to be dedicated.
I cannot tell you how many times I flipped through a Victoria’s Secret catalogue and absolutely hated myself. Why can’t I have a flat stomach like Adriana Lima? Why aren’t my legs as long as Gisele Bundchen’s? Why am I not as pretty as Karlie Kloss? Every year, when Victoria’s Secret has their fashion show, thousands of girls can be seen tweeting things like this:
“After watching #VictoriasSecretFashionShow —> self-esteem at its lowest omg :(” By the way, the girl who tweeted that does not look a day over 13.
We see memes like this as well:
Looking at stuff like that can do serious damage to your self-esteem.
That is why I love Lane Bryant’s new campaign #ImNoAngel. The clothing and lingerie company wants women to feel beautiful no matter what size we are. We are real women. We do not have the time to spend all day in the gym, nor would we want to. We have lives! We have curves! We eat!
To kick off the campaign, the models posted selfies featuring positive body messages. Here is Candice Huffine displaying the message “Be Bold Be you!!”
Women all over the world have been tweeting #ImNoAngel to support the message.
I think this is a great cause, but there is also a problem with it. While curves are definitely sexy (I am kind of curvy myself, would not have it any other way). Not having curves is also sexy. Some women are naturally skinny, not matter how much they eat and whether or not they work out. Not every skinny girl is starving herself to fit a mold. It is important to promote positive body image no matter what size you are. As long as you are healthy and happy that is all that matters. Skinny shaming is a problem, just as much as fat shaming.
Remember, everyone is beautiful!
